The Vision

Blue seascape, Kaua‘i

Kalalau sunset waves, Kaua‘i
Palm silhouette, Big Island

I like to go to places that people normally don’t know how to find. Much of my life has been spent on Kaua‘i, so I feel I know where all the hidden, isolated places are. These are not the average tourist kinds of places. You have to work a little harder to find them and to get there. Don’t ask me where I go and how I find these places—that’s my secret.
In my work I try to find a pattern of beauty in all the chaos. As I look through my viewfinder, I try to see a big, broad picture. I like to convey a lot of information in my photos at times. But at other times, simple is better. One of the jobs of a photographer is to entertain the viewer’s eyes. So often I try to get as much into a photograph as I can. In the long run I do like to be different. I want to go to all the places that aren’t just on the beaten path. I like to get off that path, too. I’m young, so I can still do crazy things.
What a beautiful place Kaua‘i is! A lot of the pictures I see of this island really don’t do the place justice, to be honest. So I’m out there trying to make the most of all the beautiful things I see. I hope you enjoy my work.
